Ahuva’s Grill is all about Ahuva Tsadok - owner, hostess and master chef of authentic Yemenite cuisine. A Yemenite Israeli-American, she bases the entire menu on revered family recipes and her homespun creations. That includes homemade falafels, hummus, soups and all the salads. The rest is made fresh daily.
The Middle Eastern restaurant, specializing in Yemenite-Israeli cuisine, opened in January 2012 in the Peninsula Shopping Center in Hewlett. A warm atmosphere comes through in the comfortable- spaced dining room with cherry -wood tables and chairs and stone-toned tiled floors.
Within minutes of settling at your table, the friendly wait staff arrives with a mezze of small salads, and large, warm laffa, Iraqi pita. Then it’s on to the entrée selection.
Meat dishes have a savory and tender char; the specialty, Kaufta Kabob is described as well-seasoned and moist. Basic whole-grilled fish dishes are equally winning. The must-have item, however, is Ahuva’s Special steak— which is served with a substantial share of sides like couscous, or Mejadarra, a rice and lentils combo.
Ahuva is famous for her Yemenite chicken or beef soups, which are served with an individual basket of kubbaneh, puffy golden brown Yemenite bread rolls, rarely be found in any bakeries, making them a true Yemenite delicacy and readily accessible courtesy of Ahuva. It comes with hilbeh sauce, which is an amazing dip that is a cross between chutney and salsa. The sharp flavors of Middle Eastern dishes are best when paired with refreshing beverages such as nectar juices, malt beer, and mint teas. Of the desserts, the best is baklava, the doughy pastry filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with syrup or honey. Have yours with a robust Turkish or Yemenite coffee.
We are under the supervision of the VAAD of the Five Towns.
We gladly cater for all occasions.
