Not quite three weeks old, Chaophraya Thai is settling into new digs in Glen Cove. The restaurant, an offshoot of the 20-year-old Arunee Thai Cuisine in Jackson Heights, is overseen by chef owner Treerabun Pinpattrakun, whose skill becomes obvious at first bite.
Loved the larb, a piquant ground beef salad spiked with fresh herbs and lime. Although "spicy shrimp" was ordered very spicy, it only registered medium on the palate. Yet the dish was delectable, topped with crisp, near-transparent fried basil leaves that shattered on the tongue.
What's weird is that the site, once home to a Chinese takeout, has a restroom that can only be entered from outside the building. This, I was assured, will change soon. The buffet table at the front of the place, too, will shortly come out.
That are minor inconveniences compared to being able to savor a fragrant bowl of tom kha gai or a lively Penang curry?
