Hubert Lenoir with Champagne Superchillin’
Hubert Lenoir was on the cover of les Inrocks & Le Monde France, Shortlisted for the Polaris music Prize, Praised by The Fader, I-D, Exclaim amongst many after releasing his 2018 debut Darlène. He has Performed at Red Bull Music Academy & has collaborated with Fashion label Ssense. Lately he has been working on a new record “Musique Directe” with a newly released single “Secret” a song ft” Mac Demarco & Kirin J. Callinan. The record, a sharp left turn from his debut that features contributions from artists like Kirin J Callinan, High Klassified, Mac Demarco and experimental punk band CRABE that feels just like Hubert’ live performances: an incredibly singular expression from one of the more unique creative minds in music today.
These performances will be accessible to people regardless of income or financial status and background with a “Pay What You Care” formula on this debut USA tour in support of “Musique Directe ”. It will also be an opportunity to reflect on what is required from artists in relation to their financial touring situation through each and every performance.
When the French expat Juliette Buchs was homesick for her country, she’d sing French-pop songs to her friends karaoke-style, with a few bottles of wine, as is custom. In the increasingly diverse Nashville scene, some of those friends, Fly Golden Eagle’s Ben Trimble and Clear Plastic Masks drummer Charles Garmendia, were convinced to start a band — not a throwback to classic country or Americana, but something more chic, from across the Atlantic.
Now based in New York, Champagne Superchillin’ is getting ready to release its third album in as many years, Taj. It still mines the New Wave of yesteryear, with nods to Françoise Hardy and Serge Gainsbourg, but Champagne Superchillin’ has now been dipped in cuban rhythms, haunting electronics and a syrup-thick production that coats it all in a psychedelic glaze. It’s intoxicating pop music for the dark corners of the dance hall.
Please Note: The event time is now 8pm. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry.
