Sixty-six million years ago, an asteroid struck Earth that triggered a catastrophic extinction event.
What do we know about that impact, and how do we know it happened?
Join Assistant Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at City University of New York and Museum Research Associate Steven Jaret for an exploration of the evidence behind the asteroid—from shocked minerals to geochemical signatures. Drawing from his work on craters and planetary geology, Jaret will reveal how scientists decode Earth’s ancient traumas and what they tell us about the vulnerabilities and resilience of life on our planet.
Presented in celebration of the Museum’s new exhibition Impact: The End of the Age of Dinosaurs, you’ll have the rare opportunity to see behind-the-scenes details of how exhibitions are made, including the scale model of the galleries that was used during development.
